Top equipment can mean the difference between 1st place and 5th place in an eSports tournament. Just like any other sport, pro gaming works best when you have top-quality equipment. Along with practice, the hardware your team relies on will help them perform better than gamers who have their own setup at home.

But trying to manage your entire team’s equipment can get confusing. Some players have machines they’ve built themselves with superior parts, while others scope out the top computers, keyboards, mice, headsets, and more the industry has to offer. Here’s how to make sure your team has the best the industry can offer.

Stay Updated on Equipment Trends

Each year, equipment companies like MSI, GEForce, Alienware, and more release new improvements to their gaming hardware. Find a way to stay updated on what these changes could mean for your team’s performance. Will it help increase the framerate? Does the newest mouse have greater sensitivity? Are there new computer fans that will help your motherboards stay cool, and therefore perform better? Keep stock of all the changes that are happening across the industry so you can determine what equipment will be best for your team’s strategy.

Catalog What Your Team Currently Uses

You can’t update your team’s equipment if you don’t know what they currently use. Take the time to catalog in detail what your team currently has. No detail is too small to include. What types of graphics cards do they use, what controller setup do they prefer.

Here’s a brief list of must-have information in your catalog. If you can think of more, by all means, include it:
  • Keyboard
  • Monitor
  • Mouse
  • Headset
  • Mousepad
  • Controller
  • GPU
  • CPU
  • RAM
  • OS

Once you know the specs of each of your team member’s setups, you can be on the lookout for improvements. And when you know what your team currently uses, you can use that information to inform your equipment budget.

Create a Space to Document Performance Issues

Once you’re up to date on your team’s current setup, you’re in a good place to address performance issues. Equipment depreciation is a serious concern for esports teams. If your gaming equipment doesn’t last through its expected life cycle, you could be out a lot of money.

Try to find a system that allows your team members to submit documentation of performance issues. Is their setup dropping frames? Do they have a mouse that isn’t responding the way it used to? Even if it seems like a small issue, make sure you document any complications your team comes across in practice. You don’t want to find out about a problem during an important competition, or even risk it crashing completely.

Track Your Gaming Equipment in a Centralized Location

The right inventory tracking platform will allow you to track all of the information above and keep it with your equipment data.  You can write down notes about equipment trends and anticipated purchases next to records on what type of setup each of your players use.

Consider organizing your asset records by player. That way, you can track who is performing well, and who might need an upgrade. Most of the time, you won’t be replacing everyone’s equipment all at once unless you have a brand deal. Small changes throughout the season will help your team continue to reach top performance without breaking the bank.

Keeping your esports team’s equipment in top condition will help them continue cranking out great performance throughout the season. Don’t be caught unaware by issues by avoiding to track what equipment you have on hand.
