Asset Tracking for Worldwide Engineering Teams

Johnson Controls produces automotive parts and HVAC equipment, serving a wide range of customers in more than 150 countries.

Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Johnson Controls is a diversified technology and multi-industrial leader that produces automotive parts and HVAC equipment, serving a wide range of customers in more than 150 countries. After an unsuccessful effort of tracking assets within the engineering department via Microsoft Excel, we realized that we needed a more effective and efficient way to track prototype HVAC controllers. Asset Panda was the right solution for our specific needs.

The majority of our asset tracking needs takes place within the engineering department, but sometimes we do ship HVAC controllers to other locations. With more than 1,300 locations across six continents, knowing where these assets were shipped to when they were shipped, and who has them at any given time is much more accessible for our teams. Asset Panda gives us the ability to add notes to each asset and that’s been especially useful with our prototypes as they travel from person to person or place to place. We can communicate in one central location, no matter where we are in the world, and all users can read notes on what others have said about the asset and use it in their projects as needed. Since switching over to Asset Panda two years ago, it really has made tracking assets more uniform across all of our different engineering teams.

There was a bit of a learning curve initially when we migrated over to the new software. But once we got started, it was easy to use and our team transitioned quickly. Right now we primarily use the online version of the software, but as our teams become more mobile, we can definitely see the value in the mobile apps as well.
