Horizon Inspired Cell Solutions Puts Asset Panda to Work in the Research Lab

Horizon Inspired Cell Solutions is a fully integrated Life Science company that provides enabling products, services and research programs to clients engaged at every stage of the healthcare continuum from sequence to treatment. The company was founded by Dr. Chris Torrance and Professor Alberto Bardelli in 2007 when they came across an impressive gene editing platform, rAAV, which enabled the ability to tailor-make cell lines with virtually any genomic modification.

Horizon's offerings are built around our proprietary translational genomics platform, a high-precision and flexible suite of gene editing tools able to alter almost any endogenous gene sequence of human or mammalian cell lines. Based from that launch pad, Horizon now offers more than 23,000 catalog products, almost all of which are based on the application of gene editing to generate cell lines that accurately model the disease-causing mutations found in genetically based diseases.

Horizon has 400 total employees, and 100 of them are based in my particular branch location. We track our equipment, which usually stays in one spot, but we do move items from lab to lab on occasion.

We had a system called CalMan years ago. We were then acquired and had to get rid of CalMan and were told to use Infor EAM. However, we never got help from our Infor representative from within GE, and none of our questions were answered. It turns out they gave a nonfunctioning system because they forgot to turn on the aspect on their back-end. For three and a half years, we had no system and were working off spreadsheets. It was hard to keep track and schedule off spreadsheets.

With Asset Panda, I can track things and keep up to date a lot easier with documents, instrument downtime, and just basic organization. The metrics have been great. It was pretty simple to understand Asset Panda's interface and features. In a short amount of time (about 10 months), I've been able to get a lot of information and work orders set up. Considering I'm doing this on the side of my main responsibilities, I'm happy with how we're coming along.

The features we use most often are data import, work orders/maintenance, customized calendar and custom reports, asset tracking over multiple locations, unlimited custom fields and actions, customization of the mobile app from the web, and inventory management. We also use the Device Data Agent integration.

Asset Panda has made our asset tracking efforts easier. I'm starting to catch up on three and a half years of data. Having an app I can take into the labs to quickly take pictures, scan our asset tags and update information quickly has been amazing. I'm still learning, but I'm trying to master the basic information so I can delve in depth into what Asset Panda can do in the long term. I use both the mobile and desktop apps. The mobile app is great in the labs. The desktop app is great for desk work or more complicated setups. I estimate that using Asset Panda saves us about an hour a day and would recommend it to friends and colleagues.

Customer support has been really helpful. They have answered my questions and were extremely quick to get us up and running with our initial upload of data. I look forward to working with them once I get into the more nitty-gritty of the functionalities.
