Waste Initiatives is Australia’s leading supplier of waste & recycling equipment including balers, shredders, compactors, glass crushers & bin lifters. We’ve been in business for four decades, providing reliable waste management services to an increasingly international clientele.
The primary function of our company is importing and selling waste management equipment to major organizations like the University of Sydney, Mars Incorporated, and other household names. We track the large capital equipment we sell to customers and help them service it moving forward. But with only 15 employees in my division, it can be challenging to track assets that are always moving around different locations across Australia and the globe.
Previously, we used a combination of Smartsheet and Microsoft Excel. When it came to data entry, we depended on employees’ legacy knowledge of how things were done, but this was frequently inconsistent. Needless to say, this process was a total mess. We had no clue where anything was, if it was due for a service, or whether it was in or out of warranty.
Then, one year ago, we switched to Asset Panda, and everything changed. The first thing we noticed was that the software was straightforward to use and required little to no training for employees to transition to using it full time. It may have been difficult for us to use and update our Smartsheet and Excel combination, but importing all that data was a breeze. It took less than a week to switch everything over, and we haven’t looked back.
Switching to Asset Panda has made our entire business model more efficient. We’ve changed every step of our process for the better, from how we dispatch equipment to customers to how we follow up with them over time. Now when we sell equipment, customers get a digital notification when the equipment leaves our warehouse and is on the way to them. We also have configured Asset Panda as our equipment maintenance tracking software: to notify us when the equipment is due for service, and we, in turn, can digitally contact our customers so we can work together and schedule that.
All in all, I’d say we’ve recovered two hours a day with Asset Panda. Previously, we spent those two hours fighting against our spreadsheet system, trying to track down equipment, figure out whether it was time to service something or follow up on whether an order had shipped or not. Now, these are all things that happen automatically with our current equipment maintenance tracking software.
However, our biggest win after switching to Asset Panda is all the new business we have directly required as a result. Previously, we didn’t always realize when customers’ equipment needed servicing, so we wouldn’t contact them about it. Sometimes those customers would realize they needed servicing on their own and go to another provider.
Now, we’re completely on top of the process. Using Asset Panda's equipment maintenance tracking software, our sales team now knows when equipment has been sent to customers. and we can follow up at regular intervals and offer equipment servicing at a reasonable rate. This has easily resulted in $300,000 in extra business for the servicing and parts division of the business in the last 12 months. Without Asset Panda, we never would have realized the business we were missing out on, and never would have taken advantage of it.
