Asset Panda Helps Houston Public Library Manage Mobile Device Collection
Library asset tracking is a growing sector for Asset Panda. Our client, Houston Public Library (HPL), accommodates one of the largest service areas in the United States. The Houston Public Library (HPL) system is comprised of 44 public service units including 31 Neighborhood Libraries, four Regional Libraries, three Special Collection Libraries and four Express Libraries, the HPL Mobile Express and a satellite library located at the Children's Museum of Houston. A flagship facility, Central Library in downtown Houston, anchors these service points.
We're a large public library system with 44 locations serving the Houston/Harris county area in Southeast Texas. Houston Public Library holds 3 million items and over the last year served 8.2 million in-person and online visitors. Through the Houston Public Library MY Link Card, services and privileges at HPL also are available to all residents in the state of Texas.
HPL employs a total of 450 staff throughout all of its locations, including six employees at our particular branch location. At our branch, we track mobile devices that our library customers are able to check out (just like books!). These items are deployed at most of our locations, so a web-based inventory system comes in handy to track them.
We were using Excel spreadsheets and now use Asset Panda to keep track of our devices as well as our promotional materials for HPL. We use both the desktop and mobile Asset Panda apps. The mobile app is easier for me to use and has helped make asset tracking more convenient.
With the mobile app, I monitor the check-in/check-out status of our assets, import data, use the barcode generator and conduct inventory management. There are still lots of features we haven't used yet, as we just started to use Asset Panda. So far, I've found the app's interface and features offering simple and easy to use.
Asset Panda has changed the way we work from the standpoint that it has made us think of our devices differently. We revised the durable assets entry form to make it more applicable to our needs. We're also using the Device Data Agent integration for IT management and audits, which syncs the hardware and software information on our devices to the Asset Panda platform each day.
Making the transition from Excel spreadsheets to Asset Panda has saved us approximately two hours a day, and our experience with Asset Panda's customer support team has been great so far. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Asset Panda a 9.
