One of the key missions of Team Gleason is to help provide individuals with neuromuscular diseases or injuries with leading edge technology, equipment and services.
Steve Gleason played for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints from 2000-2008. In January 2011 Steve was diagnosed with ALS, considered a terminal neuromuscular disease. Steve and his wife, Michel, formed “Team Gleason” with the mission to show that patients can not only live but thrive after this diagnosis. One of the key missions of the Foundation is to help provide individuals with neuromuscular diseases or injuries with leading edge technology, equipment, and services.
It costs roughly $260,000 a year to live with the ALS, which often leaves patients without the ability to afford even simple communications devices, let alone the latest technology.
The AAC (Augmentative Alternative Communication) equipment that Team Gleason tracks assist our patients with many vital functions – helps them breathe, communicate by typing with their eyes, pay bills, call/text/email, play videos, stream music and so much more. This technology is life-sustaining and allows patients to be independent and productive. So to say it’s an incredibly valuable asset would be an understatement.
Before employing Asset Panda, we weren’t really “tracking” our AAC machines. Employees were using a basic spreadsheet and unfortunately most times it wasn’t updated. With the AAC equipment being moved across the USA and the high expense of this asset, knowing where each and every one is and its maintenance/repair status to ensure it’s in proper working condition for all of our patients is key data we need access to at all times.
The most useful feature of Asset Panda for me is how customizable it is. I have customized reports so that I can keep up with how much money I’ve spent on copays and equipment for patients. And the ability to customize my data has been quick and easy! This data is especially useful so that I can be on track with where I am with my budget, which is always important for non-profits such as ours. Knowing what I have in inventory has eliminated duplicate purchases, as well as enabled me to help people with ALS much faster.
I definitely would say Asset Panda has impacted the bottom line for me from a time perspective as well. It’s added a few hours back into my daily schedule that would have been used on the spreadsheet previously. Now I have time to devote to other more important tasks instead of typing in data or searching for assets. With Asset Panda, asset tracking is now a breeze!
