The Dangers of Not Using Asset Tracking Labels

The Dangers of Not Using Asset Tracking LabelsAsset tracking labels are vital in order to know what you have on hand at your business. After all, if you don’t label what you have available in storage or in a warehouse, you’ll have to spend hours trying to identify what’s in each box and on every shelf. Without labels, your employees will be stuck trying to figure out what’s going on by themselves, which can be disastrous. If they don’t know what they’re doing, they could break valuable assets.

Here are some problems you’ll have to deal with if you don’t label what you have on hand.

Your Employees Spend Hours Opening Boxes

No matter what you have on hand, there’s no way you can keep everything out in the open. That means you will need to find a way to store all of your assets. Without a proper labeling system, your employees will spend countless hours trying to locate what they need. Even if you put someone in charge of remembering what you have on hand, other employees will need to spend time trying to contact that person. It’s better to avoid the problem entirely and use labels.

Team Members Will Have to Locate Someone Who Can Identify Assets

There’s no guarantee that all of your employees will know exactly what each asset does. If they find an item, but don’t know what it is, they’ll have to spend additional time trying to find someone who can figure it out. Your employees then run the risk of not being able to figure out who knows how to use each asset. Even if there is someone at your company who does know, there’s no guarantee they will be on hand.

Some Departments May Be Misinformed Without Asset Tracking Labels

As mentioned before, not everyone will know what each asset does if you don’t have asset tracking labels to clear up any confusion. This could lead to your employees wasting time trying to figure out how each asset works and the best way to apply it to their workflow.

Your Employees Could Break Valuable Assets

If your employees don’t know how to use the assets on hand, there’s a serious risk they could break something you invested a lot of money in. Most of the time, they don’t mean to break company assets. However, if they don’t know what it is, they likely won’t be able to figure out how to use it. And without a clear idea of how to use it, they could break off a valuable part and render it useless.

Instead of running the risk of any of these problems from coming true, you can avoid all of them by using clearly labeled asset tags. You might want to use barcodes in your asset tags so your employees can pull up everything they’ll need to know about the asset they’re using. Barcodes are a great way to store asset data like what it is, how it’s used, and when it was last maintained. This information will help your employees know how to apply the asset and get the most use out of it.

When your employees know what to expect in asset usage, they can quickly identify which assets will be most beneficial for specific work tasks. Knowing what tools to use is a great way to speed up work processes, and get more use out of available work time.
