DonorsChoose.org was started in 2000 by history teacher Charles Best. As he was making photocopies of the one book he could procure for his students, he thought about all the money he and his colleagues were spending on books, art supplies and other materials. He thought there were people out there who’d want to help … if they could see where their money was going. He created a website where teachers could post classroom project requests and donors could choose the ones they wanted to support. To date, DonorsChoose.org has vetted and fulfilled over 600,000 classroom project requests.
With a staff of 180, it is key that we are able to ensure our very mobile staff members have the technology they need to best support our teachers and students while tracking the equipment they use as they move all over the country. We were using spreadsheets to track our equipment but found that it was very hard for our team to find the information they needed on specific assets at any given time. It was also challenging to keep the spreadsheet up to date as assets were moved about from person to person and place to place.
We have only been using Asset Panda for a short amount of time, but I love it so far! Asset Panda is already saving us tons of time by enabling allocated users to know who has what equipment and where it is. Asset Panda is also helping us get a better knowledge of when it’s time to schedule hardware maintenance/upgrades and is a big help with the check in/check out process of loaner devices.
As we get further along, I am looking forward to implementing the barcode system. With so many assets, having a reliable and up-to-date method of viewing and reporting data on our assets will be helpful for our entire team.
